Description
Photograph of Don Pedro Verugo (a caretaker?) examining "the door to Father Serra's church" at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, 1885. At center, a man wearing a hat, jacket, and boots can be seen standing beside the entryway to the church. His right hand reaches out and touches the door. The man stands on a path lined with small, square stones. Much of the stucco on the walls of the church and the arcade has deteriorated exposing the adobe bricks. The roof to this section of the arcade has deteriorated. The roofs of the buildings in the background have Spanish-style tiles. In the extreme foreground at right, small weeds grow along the base of one of the arches.
