Description

Photograph of an obstacle on a miniature golf course, ca.1930. In the foreground, a course trail, framed by a brick floor, leads to an obstacle made out of a piece of tree trunk. The piece of wood sits in the center, with a cilinder-shaped hole that goes through the other extreme. There is a small sign with the number "15" on it. A three-layered brick wall is visible to the left of the obstacle area. To its right, plants and a wooden fence are observable. Men standing on a second course can be seen in the background. A building and a tree fill in the backdrop.; The back of the photograph reads: "Here's a good example of some of the hazzards encountered by the miniature golfer".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
