Description

Photographic portrait of an early football kicker, ca.1910. A man is standing in one leg and stretching the other upwards. He is opening his arms while he is looking straight up into the air. He is wearing old-fashioned rugby shoes, a pair of short trousers, and a long-sleeved shirt with a "V" on its front. He is standing on a grassy lawn. A fence can be seen in the background and behind it the roof of a house and buildings are somewhat visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
