Description

Photograph of a campground at Sheep Spring, Mount Pacifico, ca.1930. Below the center, two old men and a boy can be seen either sitting or standing around a wooden table in a picnic area, surrounded by tall trees. In the left, a large rock can be seen sitting in an upright position and leaning on a tree immediately next to one of the men. The tree can be seen supported by wooden sticks on its base, opposing the direction of the rock. In the left foreground, the base of a fallen tree and additional rocks are partially visible. In the right corner of the foreground, the downhill slope of the ground is observable. The backdrop is filled with thick vegetation.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
