Description

Photograph of California Botanic Gardens, showing entrance sign, [s.d.]. In the extreme foreground at center, a wide road can be seen curving sharply to the left. An automobile can be seen along the road to the far left. Small weeds and brush border the road to the left. At right, a line of utility poles runs parallel to the street. In the background at right, an oval sign situated between two posts reads: "California Botanic Gardens...Open to the Public 9am to 6pm". A fence can be seen behind the sign extending into the far background. In the extreme background at center, large hillsides and mountain ranges can be seen.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
