Description

Photograph of California Botanic Gardens, showing structure amid cluster of trees, [s.d.]. In the extreme foreground at left, the top of a large pine tree is visible. In the background at center, a rectangular building featuring a sloped, tile roof and arched windows can be seen. Low rails can be seen along the perimeter of the structure, and a large column is visible at right. To the right of the building, a dense forest of trees can be seen. In the extreme background, a large valley is visible. Several structures can be seen atop the far mountainside in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
