Photograph of a view of retail businesses along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, 1935. A row of two-story buildings stretches from the foreground at left into the distance at right. The buildings are light-colored and have light-colored roofs covered with wooden shingles. An eight-sided tower can be seen on the corner of a building in the foreground. A weather vane can be seen on top of the pointed roof of the tower. A paved road can be seen in the foreground, and an early-model automobile can be seen parked at left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
