Description

Photograph of a side view of a fishing barge called "Olympic", ca.1930. Aboard, people are observable along the side and up on the stern. A horizontal row of cuddies is partially visible behind the people. The ship has two main masts from which small flags are hanging from a rope, extending from one mast to the other. In the center of the boat, a row of fishing rods can be seen standing in an upright position. Below this, on the side of the boat, a sign is visible which reads: "OLYMPIC".; An extended narrow platform is noticeable which protrudes from the bow and a chain is attached from its tip to the outer extreme of the boat's front. Water is viewable in the foreground and surrounding the boat.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
