Description
Photograph of a view of Highland Avenue looking north from a point 150 feet south of Sunset Boulevard, before widening and paving, January 31, 1935. Automobiles can be seen traveling to and fro on a paved road that runs from the foreground into the center background. Two sets of street car tracks can be seen int he road, while buildings and utility poles line the road. A gas station can be seen at right, while palm trees line the left side of the road towards the background. A tall tower with a conical top can be seen in the background, while hills are visible in the distance. Compares to USC-0-1-1-3433, which shows the street after widening and paving.

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
