Description

Photograph of birdseye view of polo field, ca.1930. To the distant left, a circular grass field with several men riding horses can be seen. Two erect poles stand at the edge of the field, while a white barred fence encloses the perimeter. To the left outside of the field, several automobiles are parked in a line in the dirt. Also, two enclosed areas with horses is visible. In the extreme foreground to the right, shrubbery lines a winding road filled with automobiles, stretching to the horizon.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
