Description

Photograph of an aerial view of sailboats in ocean, Long Beach, August 1933. At center, a single lightly-colored sailboat is shown surrounded by open water. From this view, the lightly-colored sail makes a perfect right triangle. In the background, a group of eleven similar sailboats can be seen moving through the water. In the extreme background, the waves hitting against the beach are visible. To the right, the wooden pier is shown extending from the beach into the ocean. Beyond the beach, the city of Long Beach is seen stretching to the horizon.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
