Description

Photograph of close-up view of children riding a sailboat, ca.1930. At center, a young boy and girl ride a darkly-colored sailboat through the water. The girl is seen grabbing a rope and leaning to the left, while the boy kneels to the right. Two large, lightly-colored sails are attached to the central mast of the boat and harnessed by various ropes seen. In the background to the right, another sailboat is seen from its side showing the triangular form of the sail. In the extreme background, trees and houses are visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
