Description

Photograph of Paramount Pictures, showing a street view of the front, June 1, 1940. THe street runs from the right foreground to the left distance with an automobile in the left foreground and Paramount Pictures along its far side. Several people stand just outside the large archway with the gated entrance to the studios. Plants and trees climb the outer walls down the street into the background. The top of a Paramount water tower can be seen over the roof in the center distance.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
