Description

Photograph of a Spanish Revival-style apartment complex in Hollywood, ca.1920-1929. In the foreground, a brick fountain is visible, surrounded by a cobblestone path that leads to an apartment door at left, and farther into the courtyard in the center distance. All of the buildings of the complex appear to be two stories high, and made of adobe with terrcotta roofs. In the distance, a large home can be seen on the nearby mountains.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
