Description Photograph of people at a toboggan slope at Big Pines mountain camp, ca.1930. At center, two toboggan trails are marked out on a snow-covered slope. In the left foreground, two people sit on their toboggan at the end of one of the trails. Another pair make their way down the middle of a toboggan trail to the right. A man with a shovel pats more snow down onto the left trail, while several people line the slope watching. On a snowy embankment on the left, a small crowd assembles with their feet submerged in the snow. The edge of what appears to be a cabin pokes from the side at left. The background is thick with snow and lined with trees.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
