Description

Photograph of a man and woman on a toboggan in the snow, ca.1930. Snow flies through the air as a man and woman make their way through the endless white on a two-tone toboggan. The woman sits in front, smiling and clutching the rope reigns and the man sits behind her in dark-colored clothes. The toboggan tilts toward the right and inches over a snowy slope. In the background is a sprinkling of trees and a cloudy sky.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
