Description

Photograph of an aerial view of Hollywood Park Racetrack, ca.1950. In the center, a large rectactular building, which serves as a roofed spectators' area, can be seen with thousands of people crowding inside it. To its left, a larger crowd is covering the area along a racetrack; the track extends to the left, vertically, from the foreground towards the center and then curves to the left. In front of the building a garden is observable with a large sign on its lawn that says "HOLLYWOOD PARK". A parking lot with several rows of parked automobiles covers the background, the right area, and the right corner of the foreground.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
