Description

Photograph of a golf tournament, showing small bridge leading to course at center, ca.1920. To the left of the center, a small elevated putting green area can be seen separated from the hillside at right. A golf player can be seen hunched over gripping his club. Two other golfers with their respective caddies can also be seen near the putting golfer. A crowd is encircling the golf course and the players. To the right of the players, a wide ditch is visible. A small wooden bridge stretches from the golf court to a hillside at right. In the extreme foreground, a large group of seated individuals watch the match. In the extreme background, additional parts of the golf course and small groups of people are visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
