Description
Photograph of W. Herbert Allen's family in a Tourist automobile, ca.1900. Four members of the Allen family are seated in the early automobile as it faces slightly to the left. A man, presumably W. Herbert Allen, is seated at the wheel, while a woman is seated next to him. The back seat of the car is occupied by a young boy and an older girl. A long wicker basket is attached above the rear tire at right. A diamond-shaped pattern is emblazoned on the radiator grille at left, and several headlamps are visible. The car is parked on an unpaved street in front of a row of palm trees that separated the street from several large houses.
