Photograph of California Botanic Gardens, showing plat map being examined by Dr. Merrill, [s.d.]. At right, Dr. Merrill can be seen wearing a suit, tie, and glasses. His left hand is placed in his coat jacket, while his right hand grips a pen pressed against the map seen on the table at center. An older gentleman also wearing a suit can be seen at left. He holds an instrument up to the map near where Merrill has placed his pen. Small bits of writing can be seen scattered across the map.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
