Photograph of California Botanic Gardens tree planted by Mary Pickford, [s.d.]. In the foreground at right, a woman wearing a long coat, pearl necklace, and rimmed hat stands beside a small tree to her right. The woman holds a small purse in her left hand, while her right hand touches a branch of the infant tree. The tree has been placed in a hole with a rim of earth raised around it. A sign beside the small tree reads: "Planted by Mary Pickford. First tree in the Forest of Fame. California Botanic Garden".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
