Description

Photograph of California Botanic Gardens tree planting, [s.d.]. A small, infant tree can be seen at center in a small hole. The base of the tree is fastened to a wooden stick. To the left of the tree, a man wearing a suit and glasses holds a section of the thin trunk with his left hand. To the right of the tree, a man wearing a buttoned coat and officer's cap grips a shovel with dirt and holds it over the base of the tree. Behind the tree, three men wearing suits and a single woman wearing a coat and a round hat are visible. In the extreme background, large mountain ranges can be seen extending from left to right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
