Photograph of California Botanic Gardens, showing plat map being examined by Dr. Merrill, [s.d.]. At right, a man wearing a suit, tie, and glasses can be seen staring at a map to the left. The man holds a pen in his right hand and presses it against a section of the map. A small section to the left lists the total number of areas for a given unit. Near the bottom of the map, the words "Unit A" have been written, and the words "Unit C" are visible above where the pen is pointing. Small statements and lines fill the body of the image. In the bottom-left corner, a small compass key is given. Below the compass, the plat map reads: "L.A.M.P. Plat of the Garden Foundation, Inc. Proposed California Botanical Garden".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
