Description

Photograph of two women walking in the mountain snow at Big Pines mountain camp, 1928. Clad in thick winter wear, two women make their way forward in the foreground, with their feet disappearing into the snow. The woman to the right dons a winter coat and hat and carries a handbag, while the one to the left wears a thick sweater over her skirt. Behind them, to the right, stands a tall snow-covered tree. The background is blanketed in snow and thick with trees. Writing on the photoprint reads: "This is a scene on the trail to the summit of Blue Ridge from where you can seen 'Old Baldy', North Baldy, Pine Mountain, Iron Mountain, and the entire back country down the main fork of the San Gabriel River".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
