Description
Photogaph of beach-goers in the surf in front of the Long Beach Pier, ca.1925. Men and women in bathing costumes can be seen standing mostly in the shallow areas of the shore, while farther in the foreground, a few can be seen neck-deep in the water. In the background, still more enthusiasts congregate beneath large beach umbrellas. Still farther back, the pier can be seen, the romanesque bath house decorated in striped banners to the left, while a huge tower slide can be seen to the right, spiralling down to the ground. In the background the city's skyline intrudes, revealing highrise industrial buildings and smokestacks.; Legible signs from left to right include: "Pacific Ice Cream", "Bill's Place: Cold Drinks", "[...]wd's Studio", "Crescent Ice Cream", "Lee's Sandwiches", "Hotel DeLuxe", and "Rialto".
