Description
Photograph of a view of American Avenue (later Long Beach Boulevard) in Long Beach, ca.1924. To the right, traffic seems to be backed-up while a bus in the distance makes a turn in front of a nearby highrise building. At left, the road appears to be relatively free, one lane of traffic moving by the parked cars at left and the streetcar tracks at center. A number of commerical buildings with canopy-shaded windows can be seen to either side, lining the blocks. Farther in, these buildings give way to taller hotel and apartment buildings.; Legible signs from left to right include: "Tailors", "Moore's Reality Shop", "Books", "Electric Gar[...]", "Moore's Public Market", "Hotel Rolston", "Bakery", "Mira May's [...]", "Hotel Metropole", "Rooms", "Drugs", "Auto's Garage", "Frank L. Darling, Chandler & Cleavland Automobiles. Moreland Trucks", "Hardware", "Slatts for [...]", "American Pharmacy" and "Long Beach Radio Shop. Grebe Radio".
