Description Photograph of a view of sailboats on Long Beach's Alamitos Bay, 1960. Twelve small vessels can be seen on the water. All have one mast and most have a single sail. A small group of people can be seen swimming in the bay at left, while five people watch the boats from the shore in the foreground. In the background, a large two-story building can be seen on the edge of the bay. Several large trees can be seen, including many palm trees in the background at right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
