Description
Photograph of people strolling along the Long Beach Pike, just off the pier looking east, ca.1924. The massive crowd of pedestrians strolling along the dirt path are seen from above, wedged between the three-story clapboard-sided building of what appears to be a central meeting house and a row of brick commercial highrises. Signs inscribed on the windows of the building in the left foreground read "B&H Transportation Company. John H. Betts, Jr.", and "Rumpsteele Company. Marketers & Exporters of Crude Oil". At center, a post holds a sign that reads "City Ord: Parking Prohibited on this Block". American flags hang with other assorted flags on lines strung from the buildings across the pike. The beach is visible in the far distance.; Other legible signs from left to right read "Cigar Store", "Pacific Awning Co. Tents. Canvas", and "Creamery [...] Popcorn".
