Description
Photograph of a load of sugar beets being dumped into a Southern Pacific railroad car in Compton, 1910. Beets are shown at center being dropped from what appears to be a specially-designed horse-drawn cart. The beets fall over the tipping side of the cart, which is positioned on a trestle above the rail car, down a slide to the car below. The number on the side of the slatted-wood freight car is "S.P. 79123".
