Description
Photograph of the exterior view of an adobe house (houses?) in Sonora Town, Los Angeles, ca.1895. The single-story house (or stretch of houses) appears to be used for commercial use. Different store names are displayed on the windows offering food to hair cutting service. The stucco is peeling from the worn and chipped adobe bricks that form the walls. There is a door and doorsteps at every two or three yard intervals. Utility poles line the sidewalk. Heavy track marks line the dirt road in front of the house. Legible signs include: "El Monte Mexicans", "Liberria Mexican[...]", "El Poplar, semanario independ[ence] noticioso, P. Gomez, editor, director y propietorio, Ga[...] Fernando, num. 660", "menudo, enchiladas y café", "barber shop", "for rent", "original Mexican, dining room, Sra. Lolita B. Bolt", "entrance".
