Description
Photograph of the exterior view of the Avila adobe, originally built(?) by Francisco Avila (Abila!), (brother of Don Jose Maria Avila), S.E. corner of Spring Street & Alpine Street, Los Angeles, 1895. The single-story multi-unit house has an inclined shingled roof that extends over the sidewalk. Diagonal metal(?) rods attached to the walls and the end of the roof provide support for the roof. The stucco is peeling from the worn and chipped adobe bricks that form the walls. The doors and window shades are worn and some appear to be damaged. The walls show signs of graffiti. The dirt road in front of the adobe is heavy covered with tracks. Legible signs include: ..."pro, wholesale dealer in wines, liquors, cigars", "Ord St.", "San Fernando St.", "[...]ain S[...]", "692, 690", "proprietor", "for sale, [...]llison Barlow, 17 S. Broadway, room 12G", "for sale, F.M. Phelps, [...] bldg.".
