Description
Photograph of an unknown school, showing children making model yachts, [s.d.]. Four children stand behind three tables at the front of a classroom. About twenty model yachts sit on wooden pedestals along the tables. Two detailed drawings of yachts can be seen on the chalkboard behind the children while a row of photographs depicting yachts hang from the wall above.; "Making model yachts furnishes 'busy work' for these young pupils in a Los Angeles School. There they receive practical instruction and are enabled to give play to their skill with tools". -- unknown author

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
