Photograph of a view of Sixth Street between Broadway and Spring Street, looking east, Los Angeles, ca.1905. A majority of the buildings are above four-stories tall. Streetcar tracks line the street. Horse-drawn carriages can be seen parked or moving down the street. The street is busy with pedestrian traffic.; Legible signs include: "Salt Lake route, direct line to the goldfields of Nevada [and] Utah", "Southern Pacific, 600 S. Spring", "tickets", "[...] Bank [...]", "Consolidated Lumber Co., wholesale lumber", "Dr. Lanterman, Dr. R.G. Russel", "The Chas Nelson Co., wholesale redwood", "St. Paul [...], lumb[er], wholesale", "Dr. H. Herbert, Dr. R.H. Burton", "Occidental Life, Dr. Hitchcock, Dr. Fulton". Identifiable buildings include, from left to right: Hotel Orange, on the north-west corner of Spring Street and 6th Street (at the extreme left); All Day & Night Bank, on the north-east corner of Spring Street and 6th Street; Severance Building (built in 1905), on the north-west corner of Main Street and & 6th Street; W.G. Kerckhoff Building (built in 1908), on the north-east corner of Main Street and 6th Street; Pacific Electric Building (built in 1904), on the south-east corner of Main Street and 6th Street -- its edge only is visible behind Central Building; Central Building (built in 1908), on the south-west corner of Main Street and 6th Street; Grosse Building (1906-1957), on the south-east corner of Spring Street and 6th Street -- the one with the "Southern Pacific" sign on its top; Hotel Hayward (built in 1906), on the south-west corner of Spring Street and 6th Street (at the extreme right).

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
