Description
Photograph of Westminster Avenue and Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, CA,, [s.d.]. Abbot Kinney Boulevard runs from the foreground to the background at center and intersects Westminster at center. Both roads are paved, and several early-model automobiles can be seen parked along the sides of the road. Single-story buildings line both sides of the street and contain stores and restaurants. Lampposts can be seen along the sidewalks, and a line of utility poles runs along Westminster.; Legible signs include, from left: "Safeway Stores California's Leading Grocer", "Hudson Venice Motors Essex", "Wm. E. Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
