Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the roof of the Marine Exchange, 1936. The lightly colored roof of a stone building is visible with the words "Warehouse No. 1" on the left side and "Exchange" visible to the right of center on a small, rectangular section extending above the roof. The windows of the section attached to the roof are all open. A man can be seen standing near an open window on the left corner of the elevated section. An American flag and a lightly colored flag flap in the wind on a pole attached to the roof of the small section.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
