Title Teachers and students of Monrovia City's first High School Class gathered outside the school, Los Angeles, ca.1900
Description Photograph of the teachers and students of Monrovia City's first High School Class gathered outside the school, Los Angeles, ca.1900. The class, which is sitting on the outside steps, has been separated by sex, with the girls frontmost in the first three rows on the steps, and the boys behind and above them on the taller steps. Five teachers, two men and three women, stand at the far left. A young girl has turned to talk with one of the seated teachers, further to the right. At the extreme right, a girl holds a plaque which reads "Monrovia High School" in cursive. All the girls wear dresses. Most of the boys wear a suit of some kind. Trees and a picket fence can be seen just barely past the building to the left.
