Description
Photograph of "El Palacio", Abel Stearns' residence in the Arcadia Block, which later became the Baker Block, Main Street, ca.1875. The single-story U-shaped residence is long and flat. The extended roof, supported by posts, provides weather protection all around the building. Writing on the walls of the left wing reads: "saddles, halters, bridles, robes, whips, [...] soap, spurs, [...], 26". A sign posted on near the entrance to the right wing is illegible. A buggy is parked in front of the middle of the building. Several men are standing around in front of the building. Photo sleeve reads: "Built by Don Claudio Lopez in 1911" although this information is known to be incorrect, as Don Claudio died in 1833, and as the residence was actually built in 1842.
