Description
Photograph of Brand Boulevard in Glendale from above, California, ca.1924. Early automobiles are parked along the sides of the four-lane road while still others drive at left. Several cars are in the process of parking or exiting at right. A streetcar stops to pick up passengers in the foreground, parallel to its cable-posts which extend down the street spaced at regular intervals. Commercial storefronts line the street to either side. Legible signs include, "Millinary carpets PENDROY'S Dry goods Ready to wear", "Cigars Café Ice Cream", "Soda Café Candy", "Piggly Wiggly" and "Glendale Evening News".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
