Description
Photograph of the corner of Main Street and Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia, Los Angeles, ca.1886. The unpaved road is dusty and uneven, dropping deftly to the left away from the tracks embedded in its center. Horses pull a streetcar along the tracks toward the camera. Several horse-drawn carriages make their way up the road along side it. Yet another carriage is parked in the left foreground, behind some tree foliage. Two-story shopfronts line either side of the street, but are not yet packed closely together. Mountains are visible in the background. Legible signs include: "Real Estate / Morris & Ll[oyd]", and "Central Land O[...]".
