Photograph of a view of American Avenue (later Long Beach Boulevard) looking west, Long Beach, ca.1924. Automobiles run up and down the two lanes arranged on either side of the streetcar tracks at the center of the road. To the right, two cars are paked diagonally in front of the H&H Flower Shop. To the right, the Grover and Jane's Drug store and soda shop can be seen below a set of billboards on the corner across the intersection, customers visible through the large windows.; Legible signs from left to right include "Wm. Penn 5 cents. A Good Cigar", "The Times [...]", "Post Of[fice]", "Otto Berg's Bakery", "Clear Gas. 17 cents", "Elite Cafe", "Hires", "Floral Designs & Decorations", and "Say it with Flowers".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
