Description
Photograph of Pine Avenue looking north from Ocean Avenue in Long Beach, Los Angeles, ca.1910. Pedestrians walk along the streetcar rails embedded in the street on which automobiles are parked along the sidewalk on either side next to the highrises of commercial shopfronts. In the three-story storefront in the foreground, a pair of deer or elk antlers is mounted outside the window. The sign below reads "Drugs" and "Long Beach Drug Co.". Words painted on the windows of the double doors read "Soda Water". To the right the National Bank of Long Beach is visible four buildings in from the foreground. Other legible signs include "[...] Sales Yard", and the beginning "Coc" of a Coca-Cola sign, above which the "elici" of what might possibly be "Delicious" is inscribed. A web of streetcar cables overhang the scene, attached to utility poles.
