Photograph of a birdseye view of Pacific Avenue in Long Beach, looking north towards City Hall, 1927. Pacific Avenue runs from the foreground at center to the base of City Hall in the background at right. A streetcar can be seen on Pacific, while many automobiles are parked along the curbs that border the street. At left, a large park is visible. Concrete paths wind their ways through grassy areas beneath the shade of large trees. Several pedestrians are visible in the park. In the background at left, two very tall buildings are visible.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
