Description

Photograph of a view of croquet courts in a park in Long Beach, 1927. Seven of the octagonal court can be seen and benches are set up around them. Two players can be seen on most of the courts, while spectators take in the action from the benches. Large trees around the perimeter of the park provide shade. A row of early automobiles can be see parked along the edge of the park in the distance. A tall building is visible in the background at center.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
