Description
Photograph of a view of Main Street south from Temple Street showing the Temple Block, Los Angeles, ca.1926. The building in the background is the Temple Block proper, although the front building and the two of decreasing height behind it are also referred to as the "Temple Block". All of these buildings have flat roofs and rows of tall, thin windows, and all are filled with shops. The street at left is lined with early-model automobiles, and many pedestrians walk the sidewalks. Just south of Market Street (running behind the third building) is the John Anson Bullard Block (1896-1926), which appears to be in the process of being demolished to make room for the new City Hall. Legible signs include, from left to right: "Magnus Root Beer, It's fine in the stein", "Dr. G. F. Garcia Painless Dentistry", "Painless Dentists Bridgework a Specialty", "22 Karat Pure Gold Crowns", "All work guaranteed the very best", "La Poppea", "Cigars", and "I. Weinberger Cigars and Tobacco".
