Description
Photograph of a composite image showing the Manuel Dominguez adobe in Carson before and after restoration, ca.1905. The upper left corner of the image is dedicated to the picture of the adobe in ruins. Two wood framed windows are visible in the adobe wall, but the roof, as well as a large section of the wall, has caved in. The base of the walls is overgrown with weeds. The bottom of the image shows the restored adobe. There is a long covered porch around the front of the "L"-shaped building, and a series of archways grants access to it. The ground in front of the adobe is covered with grass, and there are two tall trees at right.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
