Photograph of a view of San Diego from the Grant House showing mostly open area of A and B streets, 1876. A picket fence is visible running across the foreground, while a small building is visible at left. A post fence can be seen to the right of the building, while a second picket fence is visible at right. A second building is visible beyond the fences to the right of center with a sign reading, "City Brewery". Flat land is enclosed by more fences behind the brewery, while two to three-story buildings are visible next to one another in the background. Open land and mountains are visible in the distance.

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
