Description

Photograph of a logger cutting down a tree, September 2, 1958. A man bends over with an electrical saw in his hands to the right of center. The man wears a hard hat and over alls while the blade cuts through the bottom of the trunk of a tall tree to the left of center. The ground is covered in leaves and tree branches while similar trees can be seen all around the land and into the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
