Description

Photograph of a birdseye view of the Villa Riviera hotel in Long Beach, [s.d.]. The tall, light-colored Gothic building can be seen at center. It has a steep, dark roof, and a narrow tower rises from the middle of the structure. The ocean is visible in the background, and the beach can be seen directly behind the tall building. Trees can be seen on the lawn in front of the building.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
