Description
Photograph of workers laying the last rails of the San Gabriel Railroad, Highland Park, Los Angeles, 1885. Five men shoulder a heavy I-beam of track while an adolescent boy stands in the background to the right. Finished tracks stretch out beneath their feet. To the extreme right, a line of hitched horses face away from the camera, behind which a man further back stands shirtless with his hands on his hips. Carts are visible in the background, and power lines can be seen overhead. Tree foliage frames the picture.
