Description

Photograph of seven men working with a tractor, [s.d.]. One man drives the small tractor on the left which reads "Griffith Company" on its back. Four men in work clothes and small hats use stick to assist the tractor from the right as it pulls a large frame across the dirt. Two more men in work clothes and hats watch from the left with their hands at their sides and their backs towards the foreground. An incomplete building stands at the top of a hill on the right while a metal tower and electrical lines stand in the background on the left.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
